At Trothy Road in Bermondsey, London, Wellstudio helped a client transform her home by designing a single storey rear extension and garden renovation to improve mental and phyiscal wellbeing . The 'box' extension was designed with a fully glazed opening to enhance wellbeing by connecting the resident to the natural beauty of the extended and enhanced urban garden. The visual beauty of the garden could now be enjoyed from inside and outside of the house.
Wellstudio worked closely with the client to obtain planning permission and created a full set of construction drawings for the project to meet building regulations, sourced a contractor for the project and managed its construction on site.
In the extension, as well as sliding Crittall doors, Wellstudio designed a roof light to maximize daylight and provide the resident with sky views. A new kitchen layout was configured connected to a new living space in the extension. A new contemporary industrial style staircase was also using natural timber finishes providing visual interest and better connection up to first floor level. In the garden, Wellstudio designed new grey slate paving interspersed with river pebbles to provide a low maintenance but aesthetically calming feel as well as maintaining the existing parking space. A new decking area and a timber pergola further provided amenity space and allow the garden to be used for gatherings during the summer.
The project was completed on time and on budget and to a high level of client satisfaction.
